Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R)

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians, also known as physiatrists, diagnose and treat a wide variety of injuries affecting the brain, spinal cord, and entire musculoskeletal system. Physiatrists have the unique ability to treat the whole person, not just the specific problem area, and often lead a team of physicians and support staff in treating patients with multi-traumas and complex injuries. They are trained to focus their treatment on the function of the patient and use their broad medical expertise to treat disabling conditions throughout a person’s lifetime, often coordinating with physical and occupational therapists to determine the best course of present and future patient treatment protocols. Physical medicine and rehab physicians are well suited to diagnose, treat and coordinate future medical care for personal injury and workers’ compensation patients.

Interventional Pain Management

Interventional pain management focuses on relieving, reducing, and managing a patient’s pain to improve their quality of life through minimally invasive techniques specifically designed to diagnose and treat their conditions. A primary goal of interventional pain management is to help patients return to their everyday activities as soon as possible and without being dependent on medications. The fellowship-trained and board-certified pain management physicians at Allied Health perform a variety of interventional procedures including, but not limited to:

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI)

Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) is a magnetic resonance imaging‑based neuroimaging procedure that assesses the neural pathways within the brain, brainstem, or spine. DTI analyzes the damage to the brain microstructure, white matter tracts, and diffuse axonal injury after Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

During a DTI exam, a magnetic pulse is transmitted from a variety of angles around the brain, and movement of the fluids in the brain are imaged at a microscopic level, providing diagnostic information that traditional MRI and CT studies are unable to reveal. DTI studies provide medical providers with the diagnostic evidence to correlate symptoms with pathology, as well as build a more comprehensive treatment plan for the patient.

Life Care Planning

The life care plan is a dynamic document based upon published standards of practice, comprehensive assessment, data analysis, and research, which provides an organized, concise plan for current and future needs with associated costs for individuals who have experienced catastrophic injury or have chronic health care needs.

At Allied Health, we create future needs assessments and life care plans using evidence-based medicine. Our experience in treating patients involved in litigation, along with expertise in pain management and rehabilitation, allows us to develop, coordinate and execute plans that are beneficial to the patient and fully supported in the courtroom. We recognize that other life care planning experts are often already part of the litigation team and are pleased to work alongside other professionals to support, manage or implement future treatment plans for patients.
